About Us
Silverbox films was established in 2006 by Brighton based Director/Producer Martin Smith.
Martin - “when I set up Silverbox my aim was to be a resource that helps people to get their ideas off the ground. To develop practical well managed productions whether they want to make a narrative film or documentary, promotional or corporate videos, run educational events, workshops or just promote local talent”.
A steady flow of productions followed with Martin experimenting with working in schools, colleges and universities to developing creative projects that would engage young people into cross curricular learning.
Martin didn’t anticipate the response that would follow from his work and was very quickly receiving interest from local businesses, councils, trusts, charities and even government organisations about developing promotional projects for them.
Over the next few years Martin continually invested in new equipment and his own professional development in order to continue delivering the high quality/low cost productions that he had become so well known for.
As interest spread, working with fellow artists from across Brighton and Hove became a regular part of Silverbox’s work. The catalogue of collaborating artists Martin has formed over the years, including comic book designers, performers, singers, musicians and traditional storytellers to name a few, as become another of Silverbox’s strengths.
Martin - "As much as I'd love to be able to do everything on set myself I'm well aware that the key to a truly great production is collaboration with other professionals. I've been lucky enough to work with some very talented people over the last few years. It's rare for me not to know someone I can call on who would help me bring up the standard of a production, even on very low budget shoots".
In 2011 Martin formalised Silverbox into Silverbox Films Ltd to coincide with the newly formed collaboration between himself and Carl Smith whom has just recently been made co-director of the company.
It’s Silverbox’s 6th anniversary and both Martin and Carl are looking forward to the coming year's productions that they have lined up.
